An icy cold morn at Fly Flatts with a biting WNW>5 gusting 7 with full cloud and light rain showers at 7 degrees.
A start to the June lull this morning with very little about with the only waders being 5 Curlew and a single Redshank as well as the Oystercatcher pair with their 2 chicks but up in the top fields. A third Oystercatcher dropped in briefly but was soon seen off with the parent birds.
Plenty Swifts moving through >W but no Sand Martins today. Gulls were the main feature with several LBBs soaring very high before landing briefly on the water then heading off >W over the moor along with 2 Black Headed. Otherwise very quiet with just a few Mipits and around 8 Pied Wagtails, mainly newly fledged birds.
A dry cloudy morning on a moderate WSW starting off at 9 degrees with possible showers p.m. The water level is rising now but still showing the island and plenty shore which I need to keep up there through July/August when hopefully I'll get a returning wader or two. Greenshank, Green Sandpiper, Turnstone and Grey Plover have been known to drop in on return along with Sanderling which have missed me out this spring even though Manchester Birders had a record of 19 Sanderling at Blackstone Edge on the 3rd June and still some remaining today.
